In a major setback for Reliance Big TV (RBTV), the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has withdrawn the interim protection granted to the direct to home (DTH) operator by allowing broadcasters to disconnect signals for non-payment of dues.

In yet another setback for direct to home (DTH) operator Reliance Big TV, the Antrix Corporation has disconnected the transponder service to the DTH operator over non-renewal of agreement and non-payment of outstanding dues.
RBTV was using satellite operator MEASAT’s transponders for providing DTH service. Indian DTH operators have to go through Antrix for hiring transponders even from foreign satellite operators.

MUMBAI: Direct to home (DTH) operator Reliance Big TV has moved Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against Antrix Corporation’s decision to disconnect the transponder service.
Antrix had 15 April cut-off the transponder service due to non-payment of dues by the DTH operator. The agreement between Reliance Big TV and Antrix for provisioning of transponder capacity had expired on 14 April.
